“Sit down son. It’s over. No one will ever forget what you did here today.”
It was 48 years ago today that Smokin’ Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali had their third and final clash in what became known as the “Thrilla in Manila.” It wasn’t just the rubber match to the sporting world’s greatest rivalry; it was a fight of life and death, as each man went in there willing to die. For 14 rounds, the most courageous boxing event of all time. The fight by which all others are held up to. In boxing’s illustrious history, it was perhaps the greatest picture ever painted in the art of war.
As Ali said afterward, “We went to Manila as champions, Joe and me, and we came back as old men.” Celebrating that day, Oct 1, 1975, and the greatest fight of all time!
Officially licensed by Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.
