During an impoverished youth in Brazil, Pelé learned to dribble a soccer ball using a sock stuffed with rags. By the time he was 15 years old he signed a professional contract with Santos in his native Brazil. This is when futbol’s greatest prodigy first came into focus. By the time he was 16, he scored his first goal in international play. When he hit 17, the kid who promised his father he would vindicate Brazil by winning a World Cup for his country, did just that in 1958.

He scored a hat trick against France and made good on his promise, and a legend was born. It all started at Santos!
