When he was a youth in Três Corações, Brazil, Pelé didn’t have a soccer ball, so he made one by tying a bunch of socks together. And he played. And played. By the time he was 15 he turned pro for Santos FC. By the time the was 17, he won a World Cup with Brazil. By the time he retired, he’d won three World Cups, a global fanbase, and the hearts of millions.

And it all started with a hunger to be the best. As we move into the new year, we’re celebrating those icons who showed us that if we dig deep there is always more.
