Roots of Fight is proud to honor the most devastating heavyweight boxer of all time, “Iron” Mike Tyson, with a new short film to commemorate Tyson’s three victories in 1988, including his demolition of Michael Spinks on June 27th, that earned him the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion title, but also the rare “lineal” heavyweight championship of the world.
The stunning short film features Tyson and is anchored by boxing legend Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, with insights from Randy Couture, Forrest Griffin, and Snoop Dogg.

Our latest short film tribute and clothing collection pays homage to the Gracie family and the role Gracie Jiu-Jitsu played in shaping the sport of mixed martial arts history.
The distinguished contributors speaking in the film illustrates how the reputation of the legendary clan of Brazilian ground fighters stretched far beyond the boundaries of mixed martial arts and into the mainstream. MMA cognoscenti such as Urijah Faber, Ed Soares, and Eddie Bravo share their thoughts on the Gracie family alongside sports and pop culture luminaries “Iron” Mike Tyson and multi-platinum recording artist Snoop Dogg.
“Rorion Gracie created the UFC to prove that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was the most efficient form of martial art in the world,” says Soares, the owner of Black House, “And that point was proven, anybody who trains mixed martial arts, trains Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.”
“The Gracie’s are not as big as they should be, they had an art that was so outrageous, and it showed that size didn’t matter, says Tyson,” “The fighting world has the utmost respect for the Gracie clan.”

Roots of Fight is proud to announce its latest video tribute and clothing collection in collaboration with the legendary fight team/gym, Black House.
Originally founded in Rio De Janeiro in 2006, Black House was moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to serve as a training facility for living legends such as reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva, former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight Antonio ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira, and former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida as well as rising prospects in the world of MMA. Every man who crosses the threshold is either under the management of co-founder Ed Soares or invited by a member of the Black House fight team.
The gym serves as a training haven for pro fighters to ply their trade without the distractions of the media, fans or the every day bustle of a working gym. Taking the mat for a training session at Black House marks you a member of an elite brotherhood of fighters.
“Black House has a very different type of energy because it’s not a training facility that’s open to the public,” says Soares. “You have to be invited, you’re a guest of Black House which makes it very unique.”
The Black House X Roots of Fight series showcases the iconic Black House logo designed by renowned illustrator/designer Sheppard Fairey, and marks a distinct change in direction for Roots of Fight.
In a nod to that sense of exclusivity, Roots of Fight announces the release of the limited edition Black House “Insignia’ T-shirt and sweatshirt. The first pieces of apparel in collaboration with Black House, the Insignia T-shirt is made from an ultra-soft, vintage washed cotton. The sweatshirt is a light-weight, raglan crew neck and they will only be available in limited quantity through the Roots of Fight on-line shop. Roots of Fight will be collaborating with Black House with more special and limited edition apparel over the coming months.

Roots of Fight revisits Bruce Lee’s impact on the evolution of mixed martial arts with a new mini documentary featuring rare footage of Lee and a capsule collection. This mini-doc Features commentary from some of MMA’s finest, including Paul Lazenby, Eddie Bravo, and Ralek Gracie.
The film examines the evolution of Lee’s style from Wing Chun to his opening Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute, to his ultimate realization that the best fighter, the most complete fighter has no style at all.
“I do not teach karate because I do not believe in style,” said Lee. “When you don’t have style, you can say, here I am as a human being, how can I express myself totally and completely.”
Lee went on to develop Jeet Kune Do (the way of the intercepting fist) a form of Gung Fu that he believed to be a philosophy rather than a style.
“The attitude that you build your own style using whatever works for you,” says Paul Lazenby, “That very thought is the cornerstone of modern mixed martial arts.”
Roots of Fight releases this mini documentary of Bruce Lee describing the essence of mixed martial arts along with a Bruce Lee inspired line of apparel as a tribute to his first Jun Fan Gung Fu institute that opened in Seattle, Washington in 1961.

This film pays tribute to the epic grappling match between Gracie family patriarch and father of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Helio Gracie and legendary Japanese judoka Masahiko Kimura on October 23rd 1951.
Prior to the match, Kimura, considered at the time to be the greatest judoka in the world, boasted that he would “finish the fight with the first grip.” Kimura used his significant weight advantage to repeatedly throw the smaller Gracie, but could not finish him. In the thirteenth minute of the match, Kimura secured an ude garami shoulder lock. Gracie refused to submit but his corner, realizing the only possible outcome, threw in the towel and forfeited the match. Today, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the ude garami is simply known as the Kimura.
“He knew he was going to lose in front of his whole country, but he still engaged,” says Rener Gracie. “And that’s the definition of a warrior. That’s the definition of a fighter. That’s the definition of a modern-day samurai.”
Roots of Fight commemorates Gracie vs. Kimura through the release of a short documentary with the story of the historic match recounted by Helio’s grandson, Rener Gracie and footage of the match itself.
On March 29, 1966, Muhammad Ali–the self-proclaimed greatest boxer of all time–clashed with working-class Canadian champ George Chuvalo in a heavyweight title marathon that lasted all 15 rounds. Ali won by unanimous decision but declared Chuvalo “the toughest guy I ever fought.”
We recount the epic bout through the release of a short documentary that provides new insights to the fight through the use of archival images, fight footage and an exclusive interview with Chuvalo himself to commemorate the event.
